We did the guided house and grounds tour, which was extremely interesting, that is about 1 hour. We found the museum to be even more informative and interesting and spent at least 2.5 hours, and could have spent more. However, the museum time will be determined by personal interest.

If you coming to Hyde Park from the City it will take you about 2 to 2 1/2 hours to get to Hyde Park. There are three things to be done there: 1) visit FDR´´s old home, 2) visit the so - called library, 3) visit Eleanor´s home about 2 miles away. The visits to the home are scheduled about an hour apart and last about 45 minutes. The library is done independently and I recommend taking at least an hour to see the displays of his work and life in his 13 years as President. Last, but certainly not least, is the visit to Eleanor´s separate home and workshop. You need to try and coordinate the times of the video at her home with the visit to their home at Hyde Park. All in all, you probably should anticipate 3 to 4 hours to do everything well. If you arrive from the City at about 10 you are in good shape to meet the schedules. If all goes well you may complete your visit by 2 in the afternoon. For lunch I recommend a very fun diner about 1 mile due north of the home. On your way back to the City you might consider visiting The Cloisters in Fort Tryon. The Cloisters is a medieval (Romanesque in European terms) church and cloisters built on the bank of the Hudson to house the Met´s medieval collection. Well worth the trouble.

The website does offer other possibilities. I know that there are train/bus services to the area. If you still need infor, I'd call the library (the folks there seemed super helpful) and see what they say about connections - I'm sure they have had the question before.
