This is an out-and-back hike with trailheads on either end. Both trailheads are close to sea level and the trail gains ~1600 ft. in 2.5 miles, then …

Be prepared for an exposed hike with lots of climbing and a rough trail in sections. You will be hiking for hours so bring sunblock, plenty of water and snacks. Also remember the weather can rapidly …chuckp612的完整评论

I entered the parking lot on the west entrance, off highway 30. Started the hike around 6:00 am to avoid the heat and strong sun. The Lahaina Pali trail has no shade but the view from the top is we…Veronica H的完整评论

We had to drive here, and the hike is TREACHEROUS. However, the sunset was fantastic, as are the views. I'll do it again.J S的完整评论
How do you get to the western trailhead? I'm visiting Maui on my honeymoon and I've heard a lot about this hike but want to enter on the right side.

Coming from Lahaina, look for Ukumehame Park. South of that on 30 is the trail head. Or going toward Lahaina ... The trailhead is on the east side of 30 just past the tunnel.
1. What time would you start to 'beat the heat' and have a good hike? 2. I am going solo. Chances of hooking up with others? Is solo a problem? 3. Do I need to bring all water with me or is there water on the hike? Thanks.

1. i would start at first light. the later you leave, the more you'll feel the heat. the trail is exposed virtually the whole way. 2. going solo is not a problem. there will be other hikers there. when i left at first light however, i didn't see any other hikers until i started going down the other side (you go up, you go down the other side - then (if you're hiking back to where you started) you go up again, then back down again. 3. i'd bring all you water with you.
Where exactly does the trail start? and is it 10 miles? or 1 mile up and 1 mile back. Confused after reading the reviews. THANKS!

I started on the Lahaina side. There was ample parking and I didn't feel at all unsafe parking and leaving my car there. Some people like to go toward sunset, hike up a mile or so, and have a little campfire after watching the sunset.... this is the time of day where your car would be broken in to. Go in the morning and you will be just fine. We hiked up to the windmills and just came back. It was a great workout, and I feel that the views were just as stunning as any view up on top or anywhere on the Maalaea side (you have great terrain views through gulches out to the ocean, Molokini, and Kaho'olawe... along with other great views up past Olawalu toward Lanai). Plus, you don't have the same level of difficulty on the Maalaea side... if that's what you're looking for. The windmills are the halfway point, making it a 5.5 mile hike no matter what.
