Spending time away from loved ones, Debra Bare-Rogers, raised in Wheatland, completed a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2024. The trail covers nearly 2,200 miles from Georgia to Maine.

Her time bested the previous record set by Karel Sabbe in 2018, who completed the trail in 41 days, 7 hours, and 39 minutes.
