A legal battle over a Congressional map is now in the hands of the Supreme Court with Justices hearing oral arguments on whether race or politics led to political boundaries.

Aguiñaga said facing the prospect of a federal judge drawing the map, the Louisiana Legislature decided to draw a new map and was careful to protect the district boundaries of high-profile incumbent Republicans in Congress including House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and Rep. Julia Letlow.

The Supreme Court grappled with whether or not to send Louisiana legislators back to the drawing board in a high-stakes dispute over its congressional districts.
