Ryan Pressly deemed it “probably one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made” to waive his no-trade rights and accept a trade from the Houston Astros, where the right-hander spent seven seasons as a bullpen anchor amid the franchise’s golden era,

Pressly has already spoken with Cubs manager Craig Counsell and Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer.

Reports that the Astros wanted to trade Pressly first started trickling out following their wild-card exit and a season where Houston handed the closing job to Josh Hader — their five-year, $95 million signing the previous offseason — and left Pressly to settle into a new role as their setup man.

The Astros are looking to ship RHP Ryan Pressly to the Cubs or Tigers. They are waiting on Pressly's approval to do so.

Ryan Pressly is the most decorated playoff reliever in Houston Astros ' history, a former closer with 14 career postseason saves (most in franchise history and fifth most all-time) and a 17-inning scoreless streak across the 2022 and 2023 postseasons.

Ryan Pressly had fallen out of favor in Houston after racking up six postseason saves in 2022. The Cubs stepped up for the chance to help him regain his dominance.
