At one point the defendant drove toward a cop, causing the officer to wind up on the hood of the car, authorities said.

According to officials, a 57-year-old NYPD Traffic Enforcement Agent was on-duty and in uniform, performing his duties, when he was approached by the suspect who was driving an orange BMW.

Under the new policy, NYPD officers will only chase suspects involved in felonies or violent crimes and rely on “advanced tools of modern-day policing” to track other fleeing drivers.
