The keeping of the Passover during the wilderness journey likely was limited, for two reasons: (1) Jehovah’s original instructions were that it must be kept when they reached the Promised Land. ( Ex 12:25; 13:5 ) (2) Those born in the wilderness had not been circumcised ( Jos 5:5 ), whereas all male partakers of Passover had to be circumcised.

We can estimate when Jesus was born by counting backward from his death on Passover, Nisan 14 in the spring of the year 33 C.E. (John 19:14-16) Jesus was about 30 years old when he began his three-and-a-half-year ministry, so he was born in the early fall of 2 B.C.E.—Luke 3:23.

The Scriptures compare Jesus’ sacrifice to that of the Passover lamb. ( 1 Corinthians 5: 7, 8 ) The Passover was observed once each year. ( Exodus 12: 1-6; Leviticus 23:5 ) Likewise, the Memorial of Jesus’ death was observed once each year by the early Christians, c and Jehovah’s Witnesses follow that Bible-based pattern.
