2023年1月26日 · Freezing rain is the worst. In Christmas Eve at home in NW Montana (right after the epic snow and cold spell), it started raining when it was 16 degrees. Ridiculous. Took over 24hrs to finally warm above freezing. Luckily, it was generally a light rain but enough to make a mess of everything.

Winter weather is tolerable for the most part. -10, wind, and snow aren't that bad. But freezing rain is just terrible. It feels like shards of glass are falling. It's the worst weather possibly conceived lol. If only it could be 2 degrees warmer or colder so it didn't feel like nature was trolling me.

Then while the ground and streets are still very wet from the recent rain you have a sudden plunge in temp within a few hours. Like from 35 to 20. Resulting in all that water covering everything suddenly freezing.

What it actually entails is liquid falling from the sky and freezing as it hits the ground, glazing the entire world in a layer of wet ice, sometimes up to 1/4" thick. You need a pretty narrow range of temperatures to make freezing rain actually happen, so it doesn't last long most of the time.
