Dome of the Rock ("Qubbat al-Ṣakhrah" in Arabic), whose golden dome has become the iconic symbol of Jerusalem, is an Islamic shrine on the Temple Mount. This shrine isn't a mosque but a large octagonal structure that supports a dome over a rock, hence its name.

2016年3月12日 · Though constructed between the year AD 985 and 1014, the work was over around 1010 AD. The tall tower had a huge, beautifully carved dome with symmetrical images on all four sides, weighing about 80 tons. In addition to it, there are 4 pairs of huge stone Nandis (bulls), facing different directions at all four corners.

Unlike most hypostyle-style mosques the building does not have a clearly delineated courtyard unless one considers the whole Haram as its court. The Dormition Cathedral, at eye-level is more house-shaped but it’s topped by seven green and gold onion domes.
