New York Fashion Week (NYFW), held in February and September of each year, is a semi-annual series of events in Manhattan typically spanning seven to nine days when international fashion collections are shown to buyers, the press, and the general public.

In 1993, the first Bryant Park tents went up. 1993 was also the first year that Fashion Week was called Fashion Week. Six years later, NYFW found a major sponsor in Mercedes-Benz and officially became Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

On July 19, 1943, the first-ever “fashion week,” New York Fashion Week, was held, with the mission of giving fashion buyers alternatives to French fashion during World War II, when people in the fashion industry were unable to travel to Paris.
