Well in that case it is unlikely to come in the way of vision. A partly leftover rust ring will not cause much harm to the eye as far as the vision is concerned. It also does not increase the risk of any eye infection( metallic foreign bodies get heated up while getting chipped and hence do not pose a risk of infection as such).

There's no rule of thumb that guides an ophthalmologist about when to expect to see a rust ring. They will usually appear fairly quickly, but because they are essentially part and parcel of most metallic corneal foreign bodies, and the rust rings usually are successfully and expeditiously removed, it usually is not much of a concern of ours.
