Historical atlases of Leominster, Worcester County, and Massachusetts, predominantly dating to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, are available for study in the special collections area. (Due to their age and fragility, the maps cannot be photocopied). Additional, individual maps of Leominster can be found in several locations in the library.

In 1725 the first actual settlers were Gershom Houghton in the south and soon after James Boutelle in the southwesterly part of what is not Leominster. Gershom Houghton built his house on the farm now owned by Mr. C. C. Boyden, his wife Tamar carrying in her apron the field stones used in the construction of the chimney.

Since 1906, the Leominster Historical Society has been preserving and presenting the images and artifacts of Leominster’s past. We welcome visitors to view our exhibits and to use our extensive library, photographic records, artifact collections, maps and documents for research.

The Leominster Historical Society dedicated a marker at this burial site in 1912. When Leominster became a town in 1740, the Pine Grove burial ground was established a year later. Most of Leominster's Revolutionary War and War of 1812 veterans are buried there, along with many leading town families and other town residents.
