The mountain also reflects all the geologic forces that formed the Teton Range. Ancient igneous and metamorphic rocks comprise the mountain core, sedimentary rocks drape the summit and Little Ice Age glaciers flank the slopes.

Mt. Moran is located in the northwest corner of Wyoming in Grand Teton National Park. Most climbs are approached from Leigh Canyon or the Falling Ice Glacier gulch via the Jenny Lake area.

Moran offers access to the Snake River and the Two Ocean Lake Trailhead. See the iconic Oxbow Bend, hike around a lake, or float the Snake River. Two Ocean Lake is a trailhead with access to Two Ocean Lake, Emma Matilda Lake, and Grand View Point. The area offers opportunities for hiking and paddling on Two Ocean Lake.

The Mount Moran Turnout is a scenic viewpoint located off Teton Park Road in Grand Teton National Park. This location offers unobstructed views of Mount Moran and much of the middle of the Teton range. Mount Moran is one of the most recognizable peaks in the Tetons. The peak is named after the famous landscape painter Thomas Moran.

Moran has many beautiful rock/ice routes while being much less visited than the other Teton peaks. The approach to the most popular routes on Mt. Moran involves canoeing across String and Leigh Lakes. From inside Grand Teton National Park, go to South Jenny Lake Junction and follow signs to the String Lake Parking Area.
