2014年11月14日 · Bakhar Bengena is a legendary living tree which is, believe it, scientifically estimated to be 580 years old, a pride of Jobolating village of Bokota Mouza, around 27 kms from the district headquarter of Sivasagar. The tree was discovered by famous botanist of India U N Kanchilan in 1939 gave the scientific name as Rendia Ulizinsa.

The most notable trees found in Assam are Hollong (Dipterocarpus macrocarpus), Gamari (Gmelina arborea), Sissoo (Dalbergia sissoo), Nahor (Mesua ferrea), and Simolu (Bombax ceiba). The people of Assam highly value Hollong, a large evergreen tree, for its timber, which they use in construction, furniture making, and boat building.

Hollong (Dipterocarpus macrocarpus), the tallest tree of Assam and also the “State Tree” is the most predominant constituent of these forests. The associated species are Borpat, Jutuli, Sam, Dewa sam, Nahar, Teeta chap, Bhelu, Mekai etc.

Forestry research in Assam is headed by Chief Conservator of Forests (Research, Education and Working Plans) and Conservator of Forests (Research & Education). There are 2 Divisions – Silviculture and Genetics.
