Snow leopards scale the great, steep slopes of mountains in Central Asia with ease, blending into the landscape. But these endangered cats face many threats including habitat loss, reduced prey and retaliatory killings.

Of all the leopards, the Amur leopard is the most critically endangered. Hunted largely for its beautiful, spotted fur, the loss of each Amur leopard puts the species at greater risk of extinction. Support WWF in its efforts to protect the species and its habitat.

With long hind legs and shortened front limbs, snow leopards are incredible jumpers, able to leap 20 to 50 feet through the air, or straight up into a tree or onto a cliff, simply to perch and rest.

Snow leopards (Panthera uncia) may be quite resilient to the direct impacts of climate change in the near term: they are able to tolerate a wide range of temperatures, they have minimal freshwater requirements and they have a high dispersal ability.

2022年3月3日 · Elusive and solitary nature, snow leopards are rarely spotted and even less frequently studied within their rugged and harsh habitat. However last November, two snow leopards were captured, fitted with satellite-GPS collars, and successfully released back into their rocky homeland in Western Nepal.

In China’s high plateaus, WWF works to safeguard the elusive snow leopard and its fragile habitat. Threats like climate change, loss of habitat, poaching and human-wildlife conflict have driven these cats to their current endangered status.
