2008年12月5日 · Knob and tube appears to be as fresh as 80 year old wiring can be, but I can’t help but think most existing wiring would be better off with 15 amp breakers and leave the 20 amp circuits for new 12g wire. Along same lines, is 14g romex allowed on a 20 amp breaker? I can’t ever remember 14g on anything but a 15 amp breaker.

2002年5月31日 · I have a number of places in my victorian where I want to upgrade from knob and tube to romex, but can’t get all the way to the final device. My local electrical inspector says the only way to terminate the knob and tube is with a pigtail device that looks like a wire clamp with round phenolic bulb through which the hot and neutral wires pass.

2002年3月7日 · DW and I are moving into a home shortly with knob and tube wiring. Some of the receptacles are beat and need replaced. Anything I should know or look for before I replace some of these. I believe the wiring is copper, but I will check for sure to see if it’s aluminum. The house was built in 1941 during the war.

2000年1月20日 · Since Knob & Tube wiring uses a seperate Hot and Neutral wire and they need to be routed with air between them, the routing used back then followed very different rules than those we follow today. You may find that one neutral wire winds around from several fixtures in one manner, while the hot may have come from somewhere else.

2005年3月26日 · We're in the process of rewiring a 1920's brick home with knob and tube, and we've come along alot of metal sheathing that goes back into the knob and tube, so don't believe the whole line is armored cable. We've also found that most of the lights are charged from the light to the switch, which is bizzar.

My electrician tied one circuit into a metal box by running the wires through short pieces of a rubber-like bushing material he had that then went through a romex clamp. One wire, one jacket, one clamp. Two knob and tube conductors in, one 12/2 romex out, AND one green #12 ground out and back to the panel.

The house has existing knob and tube wiring in use” It also has a picture of what appears to be knob and tube in the crawl space but no wires run thru the support. And to be honest I’m ignorant about electrical. The home does have a newer breaker box (2017) and updated 150 volt (1999)

2002年5月31日 · Like your house, my grandma's house has knob and tube that Grandpa installed (1913), and I'd trust it more than many "modern" wiring jobs - it's the connections that fail (as in 39 cent outlets), not the basic wire. The linen/cotton insulation could all fall off granpa's installation and it'd still be safe if you didn't fall into the wire.
