South Texas is a geographic and cultural region of the U.S. state of Texas that lies roughly south of—and includes— San Antonio. The southern and western boundary is the Rio Grande, and to the east it is the Gulf of Mexico. The population of this region is more than 5 million according to the 2024 census estimates. [1] .

The Museum of South Texas History was founded in 1967 as the Hidalgo County Historical Museum. Located in the city of Edinburg, the museum features exhibits on the history of the Rio Grande Valley between South Texas and Northeastern Mexico. Its various materials highlight the rich heritage and blended culture of the region.

2017年8月15日 · The Museum of South Texas History is located in downtown Edinburg, Texas, at 200 North Closner Boulevard. The cornerstone of the museum complex was originally the Hidalgo County jail (referred to today as the 1910 jail).

With its soaring main tower, the Museum of South Texas History (MOSTHistory) is a signature landmark on the north side of Edinburg’s Courthouse square. Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, MOSTHistory occupies an entire city block with Spanish Revival buildings and landscaped parking areas.
