2021年9月5日 · There is a photo of a 100 ton PS “silversides” rotary gondola (#1410) in James Kincaid’s Southern Railway Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment. These were manufactured from aluminum and took on a gray-ish cast as they aged. Because the trucks (Barber) are in shadow, the color is very hard to discern.

This giant aluminum-body gondola will carry loads up to 110 tons and more. Compare it with the small old-fashioned hopper car standing next to it which will carry only 50 tons. The contents of two of the 50-tonners could be dumped into one Silversides, with room to spare.

2018年10月14日 · Southern Railway Low-side Gondola - completed finally I find it hard to fathom that it has been about two-and-a-half years since I posted about building this car . I finally got around to dusting off the cobwebs and finishing the model.

The order for 100 drop-bottom general service gondolas included the five Tidewater Southern gondolas, twenty for the Sacramento Northern Railway, and seventy-five for the Western Pacific Railroad itself.
