The Green Death is the fifth and final serial of the tenth season of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who, which was first broadcast in six weekly parts on BBC1 from 19 May to 23 June 1973. It was the last regular appearance of Katy Manning as companion Jo Grant.

While the Doctor plans a holiday to Metebelis Three, Jo and the Brigadier are intrigued by a mysterious death at a coal mine in Llanfairfach, which is being blamed on local company Global Chemicals.

The Green Death was the fifth and final serial of season 10 of Doctor Who. It was the final regular appearance of Katy Manning as Jo Grant, who departed the Doctor's company in the closing scene of episode six.

UNIT is called in after a miner from the Welsh village of Llanfairfach is found dead, his skin glowing bright green. Jo joins forces with a local environment group, led by Professor Clifford Jones, while the Doctor investigates the nearby plant of a company called Global Chemicals.

Jones is infected with the 'green death' and begins to turn green — and all before he was able to share his knowledge of the cure. Jo contacts her UNIT friends with her radio, and the Doctor and Sergeant Benton rescue the two from the maggots in Bessie.

When a dead man is found glowing bright green at an abandoned coal mine, UNIT and the Third Doctor travel to the South Wales town of Llanfairfach. Convinced that pollutants from the nearby Global Chemicals are responsible, the Doctor faces opposition from the company director Stevens, the mysterious BOSS and deadly giant maggots…

Nothing Stevens (Jerome Willis), the chief of Global Chemicals, can say will calm them. A miner, Ted Hughes (John Scott Martin), returns from the disused mine and sounds the alarm. When he is found, he is dead, and glowing bright green. UNIT are called in to investigate and to provide protection for Global Chemicals.

"The Green Death" is the fifth story of the tenth season of Doctor Who. The serial was commissioned on 11 December 1972, with a delivery date of 15 January 1973. Robert Sloman actually delivered the script a day late on the 16th.
