Wellington is a town in the Central Western Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia, located at the junction of the Wambuul Macquarie and Bell Rivers. It is within the local government area of Dubbo Regional Council .

Wellington sits in between the Macquarie and Bell rivers in the Great Western Plains region of NSW. The town is 35 minutes’ drive southeast of Dubbo and 4.5 hours northwest of Sydney. You can also fly to Dubbo City Regional Airport and rent a car. Or take a train from Sydney, via Bathurst and Orange, which takes around six hours.

Wellington was named by the explorer John Oxley who, according to the popular story, unable to cross the Lachlan River because of dense reeds, climbed Mount Arthur in 1817 and named the entire landscape below him Wellington Valley, after the Duke of Wellington who, only two years earlier, had defeated Napoleon at Waterloo.

Wellington County is a county in New South Wales, Australia, which was one of the original Nineteen Counties. The town of Wellington is near the north-eastern edge. The Bell River is the boundary to the west, and the Cudgegong River to the north.
