The white-footed mouse (Peromyscus leucopus) is a rodent native to North America from southern Canada to the southwestern United States and Mexico. [1] It is a species of the genus Peromyscus, a closely related group of New World mice often called "deermice". In the Maritimes, its only location is a disjunct population in southern Nova Scotia. In the Maritimes, its only location is a disjunct population in southern Nova Scotia.

White-footed mice range from 150 to 205 mm in total length, with their tail making up about one-third of that length. They weigh from 15 to 25 g. The fur on their back ranges from light brown to a more reddish brown, while the fur on their stomach and feet is white.

Head and body length of Peromyscus species range from 70-170 mm and tail lengths are 40-205 mm. There are 2 subgenera and 55 species. P. leucopus has soft dense fur and large ears which are covered with fine hairs. The tail is about one third the length of the total length of this mouse, and is also covered with fine hairs.
