Groundwater as a vital source of water is under threat. Population growth, rapid urbanisation and economic development are putting increasing pressure on groundwater. Although groundwater is invisible, its impact is visible everywhere.

A good quality of surface waters like lakes, large ponds, water reservoirs and public waters is important for recreational use or drinking water supply. To keep the quality at an excellent level, the growth of blue-green algae, for example, presents a global problem.
