There are numerous fan created maps of the 'Verse and several commercial versions. Before it was understood that the 'Verse was a multi-star system, many fans tried to map the worlds of Firefly around a single sun. Hansel Cook was one of many to create a single star system.

In the intro to the show it says/suggests the planets to be in one star system. But in episode 9 (Ariel) the intro suggests that they are spread across the galaxy. The specific quote is: ...And

The ’Verse is split up into three distinct regions spanning five planetary systems. Each system has one or more sources of light in the form of a star or protostar. The system’s planets revolve around these stars and, if ’n you remember your basic astronomy, you know that moons orbit their respective planets.

We had to list all the known and named planets and moons, and get them in some sort of order that made sense. In "Serenity" the travel time from Lilac to Beaumonde is ten hours, why do we have them around different stars? Was this planet near the Rim, or near the Core?

In 2008, a double-sided poster called the Complete and Official Map of the Verse was produced, which depicts the system as consisting of one central star (the "White Sun") orbited by the "core worlds" and several other stars (each of which has its own planetary system).
