While both cars have the same quoted time of 3.1 seconds 0-60, strangely enough, the Model 3 feels quite a bit faster than the Model S Long Range in my experience. I think part of this is due to the stiffer suspension. The Model S being a smoother ride almost dampens the G force of a launch, at least for me.

But if you're counting 100% down to like 15% That seems totally normal for the older cars. I drove 100% down to 5% in my 2017 Model S last winter and got 165 miles, but that's Nebraska freeway speed (around 90mph) and February cold weather. The old Model S does particularly bad in winter with the large resistive heaters and less insulated glass.

Jun 30, 2024 · I am looking at some used Model S’s as well, and I really like the last refresh, particularly the 2019/2020 model. It has physical turn signals and mode shifts, as well as adjustable regen brakes. It’s also a lot cheaper (40k vs 85k if I go for plaid).

Jul 1, 2019 · It's not running on the old hardware for either the Model S or Model X, both got new infotainment upgrades after the Model 3 got released and people started complaining the new software releases back then was running slow because the hardware was older. this needs Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Previous hardware version, HW 2.5, first appeared in August 2017, and is fully upgradable to HW3 with purchase of the Full Self-Driving software package that includes the computer unit retrofit.

Other than the blind spot camera (which doesn’t matter to me since all my life I’ve gotten used to changing lanes the old fashioned way) my vehicle still gets updates. It even got the 2021 holiday update a few years back. Also when you say legacy, that includes all S/X models 2020 and earlier.
