Apr 14, 2022 · I agree that the SDS 100 is the best portable scanner going for the traveler. You may find your RV is an "RF cage" that attenuates incoming signals. A good outside antenna, being sure to have a decent ground plane may overcome that. Also, if you plan to listen while on the road, an amplified speaker might help with road noise.

Sep 21, 2020 · From there consider an antenna that is sized to be 1/4 or 1/2 wavelength at airband, like some of the DPD antennas referenced above. They will work better than a portable antenna at the expense of being tethered to it. Mounting one of these outside would only help. I suggest a better portable antenna first and then go from there.

Jan 29, 2019 · Yes, Very true. In my scanner heyday, I wasted money on base and portable version's of the same scanner. Having a portable has it's advantage's. It can be used as a base/mobile. when the power fail's <and it eventually will>, throw in a set of batteries.

Mar 9, 2016 · Only use one HH scanner these days (WS1080) which came with a 4" stock antenna. Replaced it with the Whistler 6" stock antenna and it performs surprisingly well. So much so the Kul-Duck 4/70 and RH77CA are in the drawer.
