2018年10月9日 · Presently, I am contemplating upgrading the induction system to the FiTech fuel injection. The fuel injection system uses an O2 sensor, and I'm concerned that the ZDDP in the oil might have an adverse impact on the sensor, similar to its effect on catalytic converters. Does anyone have experience using ZDDP oils along with an oxygen sensor?

2024年11月22日 · Two things will shorten the life of an O2 sensor: having the sensor clocked in the exhaust pipe at some other position than between 10:00 and 02:00 o'clock. 12:00 is best. powering up the sensor heater prior to starting the engine. OEMs typically delay sensor start up a couple of seconds after the engine is confirmed to be running (i.e. RPM > 350).

2023年5月6日 · Our answer: Your classic Triumph engine would still be best protected by a motor oil with high-zinc (also called ZDDP) content. Motor oil with high-zinc and phosphorus ingredients pose no risk to oxygen sensors. So, there is plenty of upside for valvetrain protection, but no downside in terms of O2 sensor compatibility.

2007年12月12日 · Oxygen sensors can be fouled by several means. Lead, sulphur, phosphorus, silicone, and many other materials can foul sensors. As can running excessively rich or having a misfire in one cylinder (sensor sees lean and increases the fuel ratio), and operating at too low a temperature. Visualize a porous substrate.

2016年7月27日 · You'd have to be burning pretty significant amounts of oil to worry about ZDDP. Plus, fuel injection was phased in in the late 80s and ZDDP levels weren't reduced until the late 90s, so there was a good decade or so when most new cars were running with o2 sensors and ZDDP without any systemic problems.

2008年12月27日 · There is no hard data on how it effects catalytic converters, but there was plenty of mention of how the additive is heat seeking and "compromises" oxygen sensors. George: are you running a FT cam with the zinc additive and an oxygen sensor?

2005年1月3日 · ZDDP, which has both phos & zinc components, is in suspension in the motor oil. The motor oil has to enter the combustion chamber either past the piston rings, valve guides, or thru the PCV system, etc. for the phos to enter the exhaust gas flow.

2014年3月25日 · However, in doing some research I'm using an oil with high ZDDP and zinc and phosphorus appear to be bad news for oxygen sensors. The sensors are only $48 from Tasca, so I may just put a few thousand miles on this oil change and change out the sensors when it's time to change the oil.

2012年2月17日 · How often should I change my oxygen (o2) sensor in my W124 (93' 300E 2.8) and spark plug? I don't think we have ever changed the o2 sensor before, but the last service at the dealer (long time ago) they might have changed the spark plug....

2010年7月5日 · ZDDP’s primary purpose is to prevent wear in high friction areas of the engine such as camshafts, connecting rods and lifters, which is probably why Keith is so concerned about its decline. Less ZDDP = More engine wear? The reduction of ZDDP in motor oils has caused many issues in flat tappet engines and a big stir in the classic car forum.
